My name is Jacqueline Abberton. I am a LEA (Local Educational Agency) representative for the Pupil Personnel Department at the preschool/elementary level in a few of our Westerly Public Schools, namely Dunns Corner School, WHS/Babcock Hall, and Bradford Elementary School. My role is to work with fellow educators and specialists in the process of identifying and supporting students who have disabilities. Our 'Evaluation Team' and 'Individual Educational Planning Teams' (ET and IEP teams) meet with parent/guardians of students who are experiencing challenges to discuss evaluation findings and learning profiles which assist teachers in developing meaningful instruction and plans within the least restrictive educational setting. It is important for all students to have access to a high quality general education curriculum. My belief is that all students can learn when they feel valued and understood, and are appropriately challenged through effective instructional practices.
